Having initially developed in the oral culture in Turkish literature, Hamzanamas began to be written down around the XIVth and XVth centuries. This is probably because of the challenge of compiling and collecting the narratives that are inconsistently scattered among people. The plot and the characters of the heroes of the Hamzanamas overlap with the dynamic and vivacious nature of the Turks. Also the time being ambiguous and the spaces moving between reality and imagination, this structure maintain and nurture the vivid nature of this style. All these features that keep the mind of the reader or the listener alive are the elements of the genre called menâkıbnâme (epic-fantasy narratives) in our literature.
