Sefil Selimî, one of the last âşıks of the 20th century, is a very valuable poet both in terms of his poetic understanding of his time and his relationship with the past and the future of poetry. At the basis of his understanding of poetry, there lies deep mystical meanings and stylistic and contextual elements of divan literature, which reached to present through the ages. The poet, whose art is in line with his world view based on “love of humankind” and “belief in unity”, said many poems on Allah’s servants’ relationships with one another and their relation with Rabb. He aimed at making the mankind see his true self and Allah in the poems, as if they are mirrors. Our folk poet, who embroidered Anatolia’s all voices reaching us from the centuries back in the form of orisons, stole our hearts and gained an exceptional place in the tradition with his wise and meaningful poems, which contains bâtınî depth, and cultural accumulation of centuries passed down the next generations verbally of in writing in literal circles.
