The lost Atlas of Ottoman Empire (Osmanlı’nın Kayıp Atlası), which Mustafa Armağan wrote at a rare historical junction, is created in an attempt to depict the great map that we lost using the bits and pieces left. Foundation, rise, interregnum, regression and collapse… This is the box that history books see fit for a world power that spread over three continents ruling people from dozens of different cultures, religions and nationalities for 6 centuries with flying colors. This box could produce but a caricature and so it did. So, why was this brain surgery performed? Out of the fear that an “Ottoman-like” formation could emerge on these lands. If this dangerous ‘nation’ find out what their ancestors did in the past, it might develop the habit of unshackling, which would mean setting up a bomb under the desired order to be established. For this reason, Ottoman Empire was disgraced, disdained, undermined and denigrated in this for years.
